La Dame à l’Épée : Mythe et Imaginaire
In a universe where myth and the imaginary converge, « The Lady with the Sword » features a resolute warrior, helmeted in the Roman style, standing on a boat, sword in hand, facing an enigmatic sea creature. The expressive lines and the subtly nuanced palette, highlighted with vivid touches, convey an approach blending illustration and painting.
Inspired by folklore, dreams, and the unconscious, this work invites contemplation and personal interpretation. The strong contours and flat areas of color recall the aesthetics of Japanese prints and contemporary graphic novels, while opening the door to a rich and open visual narrative.
« The Lady with the Sword » was born from a personal fascination with coming-of-age and transformation narratives, inspired by marine legends and the powerful female figures that populate European myths, as well as stories like those of Celtic mermaids or ancient heroines, where the boundary between the human world and the unknown becomes fluid and mysterious.
Dans un univers où le mythe et l’imaginaire se rencontrent, « La dame à l’épée » met en scène une guerrière résolue, casquée à la manière romaine, debout sur une barque, l’épée à la main, face à une créature marine énigmatique. Les lignes expressives et la palette subtilement nuancée, relevée de touches vives, traduisent une approche mêlant illustration et peinture.
Inspirée par le folklore, les rêves et l’inconscient, cette œuvre invite à la contemplation et à l’interprétation personnelle. Les contours affirmés et les aplats de couleur rappellent l’esthétique des estampes japonaises et des romans graphiques contemporains, tout en ouvrant la porte à une narration visuelle riche et ouverte.
« La dame à l’épée » est née d’une fascination personnelle pour les récits de passage et de transformation, inspirée par les légendes marines et les figures féminines puissantes qui peuplent les mythes européens ainsi que par les histoires comme celles des sirènes celtiques ou des héroïnes antiques, où la frontière entre le monde humain et l’inconnu se fait mouvante et mystérieuse.

This work is executed using felt-tip pen and acrylic on canvas, a combination that allows for the exploration of both the spontaneity of the line and the depth of the colors. The contours are drawn with a felt-tip pen to accentuate the expressiveness of the forms, while the acrylic, applied in flat areas (color blocks) and glazes, brings subtle nuances and vibrant contrasts. This dialogue between drawing and painting conveys the intention to create images that are both structured and open to the imagination.
Cette œuvre est réalisée au feutre et l’acrylique sur toile, une combinaison qui permet d’explorer à la fois la spontanéité du trait et la profondeur des couleurs. Les contours sont dessinés au feutre pour accentuer l’expressivité des formes, tandis que l’acrylique, appliquée en aplats et en glacis, apporte des nuances subtiles et des contrastes vibrants. Ce dialogue entre dessin et peinture traduit l’intention de créer des images à la fois structurées et ouvertes à l’imaginaire.
