There’s something magical about imagining life beneath the waves—a world where humans and nature coexist in harmony. “The Ocean Gardeners” is my tribute to that vision. This artwork, part of my “Nikaiads” series, brings together classic drawing and digital painting to create an underwater scene filled with vibrant coral, playful fish, and three myth-inspired figures tending to their aquatic garden.

Il y a quelque chose de magique à imaginer la vie sous les vagues—un monde où l’humain et la nature coexistent en harmonie. « Les Jardinières de l’Océan » est mon hommage à cette vision. Cette œuvre, issue de ma série « Nika¨iades », mêle dessin et peinture numérique pour créer une scène sous-marine foisonnante de coraux colorés, de poissons espiègles et de trois figures mythologiques prenant soin de leur jardin aquatique.

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of guardianship—how we care for the world around us, and how, in turn, it shapes us. In this piece, the figures aren’t just part of the ocean; they’re caretakers, weaving stories of connection and stewardship. The bold outlines and luminous colors are inspired by both Japanese ukiyo-e prints and the visual storytelling of graphic novels, blending tradition with a modern twist.

J’ai toujours été fasciné par l’idée de la protection—comment nous prenons soin du monde qui nous entoure, et comment, en retour, il nous façonne. Ici, les personnages ne font pas que vivre dans l’océan ; ils en sont les gardiens, tissant des histoires de connexion et de responsabilité. Les contours marqués et les couleurs lumineuses s’inspirent à la fois des estampes japonaises ukiyo-e et de la narration visuelle des romans graphiques, pour un mélange de tradition et de modernité.

This work is executed using felt-tip pen and acrylic on canvas, a combination that allows for the exploration of both the spontaneity of the line and the depth of the colors. The contours are drawn with a felt-tip pen to accentuate the expressiveness of the forms, while the acrylic, applied in flat areas (color blocks) and glazes, brings subtle nuances and vibrant contrasts. This dialogue between drawing and painting conveys the intention to create images that are both structured and open to the imagination.

Cette œuvre est réalisée au feutre et l’acrylique sur toile, une combinaison qui permet d’explorer à la fois la spontanéité du trait et la profondeur des couleurs. Les contours sont dessinés au feutre pour accentuer l’expressivité des formes, tandis que l’acrylique, appliquée en aplats et en glacis, apporte des nuances subtiles et des contrastes vibrants. Ce dialogue entre dessin et peinture traduit l’intention de créer des images à la fois structurées et ouvertes à l’imaginaire.

This scene evokes the tension between strength and vulnerability, between the will to venture into the unknown and the temptation to remain in the familiar. The influences of folklore, particularly tales of navigation and encounters with mythical creatures, nourish the composition and invite reverie.

“The Woman Under the Sea” is a work that reflects a more recent style—a fusion between illustrative art and traditional painting. This approach allows aesthetics to be combined with storytelling. Inspired by the “Nikaiads” series, this piece, created with ink and acrylic on paper (59 x 42 cm), invites the viewer into a dreamlike underwater world where the boundaries between human and nature dissolve.

« La femme sous la mer », est une œuvre qui reflète un style plus récent, c’est-à dire une fusion entre un style illustratif et la peinture traditionnelle. Ce qui permet d’allier l’esthétique à une histoire. Inspirée de la série « Nikaïades », cette pièce, réalisée à l’encre et à l’acrylique sur papier (59 x 42 cm), invite le spectateur dans un monde sous-marin onirique où les frontières entre l’humain et la nature s’effacent.

Playful fish, a peaceful turtle, and delicately detailed corals orbit around her, brought to life by confident linework and a harmonious palette of deep blues, greens, and luminous accents. The stylized forms and flat areas of color evoke the influence of Japanese ukiyo-e prints and contemporary illustration, while the narrative dimension of the scene invites personal interpretation and emotional connection.
